Want to make a hash-tag trend on Twitter? The next few posts will teach you how.
Your first step is to create a new hash-tag you want to trend. Already have one? Has it been used on Twitter before? Then it will be harder.
Twitter’s algorithm for trending topics is a closely held secret, but they give a few hints. Twitter admits their algorithm “identifies topics that are immediately popular, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis.” Otherwise hash-tags such as #tcot and #p2 would trend all day every day. Twitter has also revealed that “topics break into the Trends list when the volume of Tweets about that topic at a given moment dramatically increases.”
Remember: Twitter gets excited when a new topic suddenly explodes. So start with something new.
